Your journey into the world of circus starts here.

Circa Academy offers exceptional training programs with one of the world’s leading circus companies.

Spanning from early childhood play to pre-professional development, our programs build physical and creative skills in a safe, non-competitive environment with some of Australia’s best trainers.

By asking “what is possible in circus?” Circa has created a suite of award-winning productions seen by over 2 million people across 45 countries. We bring this curiosity, expertise and daredevilry to Circa Academy –  making circus experiences available to everyone.

Youth Circus:

Discover your circus superpowers in our Youth Circus Program. Circus skills and fun starts here with cartwheels, backflips, trapeze, acrobatics, mini-tramp, juggling, hula-hoops and silks. Circa Academy welcomes beginner to advanced participants from 4 – 18 years old to join us in an supportive, non-competitive environment.

Activities in Workshop May Include

Emotion Walks to express music-induced feelings.

Mirroring Games to develop ensemble sensitivity.

Short Devised Circus Acts based on scenes from the show (e.g. powder chaos, balancing tension, fridge entrance).

  • Understand how circus, music and theatre can blend to tell a story.
  • Be able to use body and space to express emotion and character.
  • Gain confidence in improvisation, movement creation and group collaboration.
  • Develop appreciation for Mozart’s music through a contemporary and physical lens.
Key learning outcomes

Drama

Exploring character without words
Participants will explore physical theatre techniques to communicate character, emotion and narrative without spoken dialogue.

Developing relationships through movement
Circus sequences will demonstrate how characters interact using gesture, eye contact, and proximity to build story tension and resolve conflict.

Tension and focus
Learn how circus skills like balancing and juggling can create tension, anticipation, and audience engagement.

Music

Introduction to classical music through play
Participants will respond physically to excerpts of Mozart’s music, identifying tempo, dynamics, and mood, then embody those qualities in movement.

Conducting and beat patterns
Students will experiment with 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures, learning how to conduct and perform movement or acrobatic sequences that align with those rhythmic patterns.

Contemporary Circus

Circus as physical storytelling
Students will learn acrobatic and balancing techniques as expressive tools.

Creative collaboration
Students will work in teams to devise and rehearse original movement pieces inspired by Wolfgang, using mirroring, canon, and improvisation.

Character movement development
Drawing from clowning and slapstick styles used in the show, students will learn to exaggerate physicality for comedic and emotional effect.
