The People’s Dance Party
An immersive learning experience through movement, culture, and community.
Bring your students to an unforgettable dance experience that goes beyond performance. The People’s Dance Party, created by Bring A Plate – Inclusive Dance Company, is a dynamic, educational offering that celebrates the diversity of bodies, identities, and dance styles.
Students will:
- Experience pop-up performances by professional artists from a variety of cultural and contemporary dance backgrounds.
- Take part in follow-along dance sessions, where artists teach accessible movement while sharing the cultural and creative context behind their work.
- Explore themes of identity, self-expression, and inclusion, using dance as a lens to understand community and storytelling.
This inclusive and beginner-friendly experience supports learning across The Arts and HPE, and encourages awareness of culture, wellbeing, and social connection. Whether students dance or observe, they’ll gain valuable insights into movement as an expressive and culturally significant art form.
Key learning outcomes
The Arts & HPE
Prep – Year 2: Exploring Movement and Cultural Expression
Learning Area: The Arts – Dance (ACADAM001, ACADAR004)
Students explore how dance can express stories, feelings, and ideas. Through observing and joining in with follow-along movement and community dance activities, students learn about how movement communicates meaning and how dances from different cultures (including their own) are structured and performed.
Years 3–4: Participating in Community and Inclusive Dance
Learning Area: The Arts – Dance (ACADAM005, ACADAR008)
Students participate in culturally diverse and inclusive dance activities that reflect different social contexts. They respond to and reflect on the performance by discussing how movement, space, and relationships communicate meaning. They learn to identify different choreographic structures and how dance contributes to community and belonging.
Years 5–6: Dance as Social Commentary and Collaboration
Learning Area: The Arts – Dance (ACADAM009, ACADAR012)
Students explore how dance can be used to represent ideas and social themes. Through performance and participation, they reflect on how artists use elements of dance to convey messages about identity, inclusion, and culture. Students collaborate with peers and facilitators in a respectful environment, strengthening creative and interpersonal skills.
Years 7–8: Dance Practice, Identity, and Social Engagement
Learning Areas:
- The Arts – Dance (ACADAM013, ACADAR016)
- HPE – Personal, Social and Community Health (ACPPS074, ACPPS077)
Students explore the role of dance in society and its power to challenge assumptions and celebrate diversity. They engage in performance and follow-along tasks that highlight inclusive dance practices. Students analyse the social function of dance and reflect on their own role in respectful cultural engagement and collaboration.
Years 9–10: Choreographic Intent and Critical Reflection
Learning Areas:
- The Arts – Dance (ACADAM017, ACADAR020)
- HPE – Personal, Social and Community Health (ACPPS092, ACPPS094)
