A live online creative club for primary school kids
A limited number of SQUIGL Club places are now available for regional and remote schools.
SQUIGL Club is a live online creative program designed especially for primary school students, bringing picture books, drawing, storytelling and creative thinking together in a fun, highly interactive online experience.
Led by award-winning Australian author and illustrator Andy Geppert, SQUIGL Club exists to foster country kid creativity, connect them to a wider creative community, and amplify their creative voices.
The program is designed for classes of around 10-30 students, with sessions adaptable for larger groups and different primary school year levels. It is particularly suited to schools where students may be learning remotely, in small groups or across multiple locations.
How does SQUIGL Club Work?
SQUIGL Club runs for approximately 8 live sessions across the school year, with an online session every 3–4 weeks. Each session runs for approximately 50 minutes via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Rather than trying to replicate a classroom lesson online, SQUIGL Club has been purposefully created for the online space. Each 50-minute episode is broken into 5-8 short, energetic modules, generally around five minutes each. This keeps the pace moving, gives students regular opportunities to participate and helps maintain attention and engagement through a screen.
Here’s what your students can look forward to:
- Discover great picture books from Australia and around the world.
- Go behind the scenes to see how authors and illustrators develop stories and artwork.
- Get SQUIGLing with playful drawing activities that get pencils moving and minds dreaming.
- Try new ideas and learn through our perfectly messy mistakes.
- Share SQUIGLs and ideas and be inspired by kids from other Clubs.
- Meet guest authors and illustrators and hear their creative stories and tips.
- Be published alongside their picture book heroe’s in our annual SQUIGL Club Calendar competition.
- Take the spotlight in our Mini Presenter segment, where students share a drawing or creative idea with the wider SQUIGL Club community.
Who is it for?
SQUIGL Club is designed primarily for primary school students aged 4–7, but sessions can be adapted for a wider range of primary year levels.
It works particularly well for:
- regional and remote primary schools
- small classes and multi-age groups
- distance education students
- schools connecting students from different locations
- classes looking for a regular creative experience rather than a one-off workshop.
Students can join from individual computers or tablets, or participate together in a classroom or small group around a shared screen.
More than an online lesson
SQUIGL Club was created specifically for the online environment, designed to overcome the challenges of learning through a screen and keep kids actively involved from start to finish.
Short activity modules, drawing prompts, regular interaction and student spotlights keep the pace moving and the energy up. The aim is to make 50 minutes feel more like 15, with students drawing, laughing, sharing ideas and having a go rather than simply watching.
It’s a creative gathering that connects kids across distance and gives every student a chance to feel seen and part of something bigger.
SQUIGL Club aligns with the Australian Curriculum across English and Visual Arts, while its real focus is simple: building confidence, curiosity and creative thinking through the joy of books and drawing.

About the Artist
Andy Geppert is an award-winning Australian author and illustrator based in Brisbane. A recipient of the prestigious CBCA Crichton Award for Best New Illustrator, Andy’s passion for picture books, storytelling and sharing the creative process led him to create SQUIGL Club in 2025 — a unique live online creative club connecting children from regional and remote communities across Australia through the joy of picture books, drawing and artistic expression.
SQUIGL Club exists because Andy believes every child, regardless of where they live, deserves the opportunity to discover and share their creative voice. Through picture books, guided drawing and shared creative experiences, the club gives young artists a place to dream, create, connect and celebrate every SQUIGL they make.
