Monkey Baa offers a suite of engaging, curriculum-linked drama workshops for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Led by professional Teaching Artists, our workshops build confidence, creativity and collaboration through storytelling, movement and performance. Sessions are tailored to suit each year group and can be delivered in your classroom or paired with a Monkey Baa theatre performance when touring.

Choose from:

Show-inspired workshops (K–4): Deepen your students’ engagement with Monkey Baa’s acclaimed productions, including Edward the Emu, Josephine Wants to Dance, Where is the Green Sheep? and more. These workshops explore themes, characters and creative choices through drama, movement and storytelling. 1 hour, $15 per student.

Improvisation (Years 4–10): A high-energy workshop where students create characters, scenes and stories on the spot. It’s a fun introduction to performance skills, collaboration and creative risk-taking, with content tailored to each year group. 1 hour, $15 per student.

Puppetry (Years 4–10): Students design and build their own paper puppets, then bring them to life using movement, breath and focus. A playful, hands-on way to explore visual storytelling, with content tailored to each year group. 2 hours, $12 per student.

Scriptwriting (Years 4–10): A creative writing workshop where students craft characters, dialogue and short scenes. Ideal for developing voice, structure and story-making for stage, with activities adapted to suit each year group. 2 hours, $12 per student.

Stage Design (Years 4–10): Students reimagine a play through set, prop and costume design. They sketch, build and explore how visual elements support storytelling. Content is tailored to the developmental level of each year group. 2 hours, $12 per student.

All workshops align with The Arts curriculum (Drama), with links to English, Critical and Creative Thinking and Personal and Social Capability. Sessions are adaptable for students with diverse learning needs and capped at 30 students per workshop.

Key learning outcomes

Drama (The Arts)

Students explore role, character and situation through improvisation, storytelling, movement and performance. They develop skills in voice and physical expression, learn to respond to dramatic works, and create their own performances based on literature and lived experience. Workshops support confidence, collaboration and creative thinking, aligned with the Curriculum: The Arts – Drama.

English

Workshops build students’ understanding of narrative structure, characterisation and dialogue. Through writing, reading and performing texts, students enhance their comprehension, speaking and listening skills, while engaging with stories in new and imaginative ways.

Critical and Creative Thinking

Students generate and develop original ideas, experiment with dramatic forms, and reflect on their creative choices. They learn to evaluate options, take creative risks and adapt their thinking in collaborative settings.

Personal and Social Capability

Students build confidence, empathy and resilience through ensemble-based activities. They practise respectful communication, take responsibility for their contributions, and support others in group performance tasks.

About the Artist

Hello! We are Monkey Baa Theatre Company, a national Australian company dedicated to creating extraordinary theatre experiences for young audiences. For over 27 years, we’ve been inspiring children aged 3–13 with award-winning productions that spark imagination, creativity and a lifelong love of the arts. For thousands of young people across Australia, a Monkey Baa show is often their very first time at the theatre—so we make sure it’s a moment they’ll never forget.

In addition to our touring productions, we offer a range of creative workshops that give young people the chance to engage with storytelling, performance and theatre-making in a hands-on, playful way. Whether it’s in the classroom, at the theatre or out in the community, our workshops are designed to nurture confidence, collaboration and creative expression.
