PRECISION. ECONOMY. PRESENCE.
GROUNDED IN MEYERHOLD’S BIOMECHANICS. ADAPTABLE TO VIEWPOINTS, CONTACT IMPROVISATION, OR THE FRANTIC METHOD ON REQUEST.
In this workshop, students move, play, and push themselves physically as they discover how the body can be the most powerful storytelling tool on stage. Drawing on Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, the session takes students through structured movement exercises that build body awareness, spatial intelligence, and genuine stage presence.
Perfect for students who struggle to connect with text-based work—or any class that needs to get out of their heads and into their bodies.
Students will leave with: greater physical confidence on stage and a foundational vocabulary of physical theatre they can apply across performance styles.

‘One of my students has already referenced Biomechanics in a reflection and connected and compared it to work in Balinese Topeng. It has opened up their minds to the abstract and physical.’
— Teacher, Shanghai American School
‘The workshop was engaging, highly practical, and pitched perfectly to the needs of senior students preparing for their final public performance. Cesar and Megan created a collaborative and professional environment that encouraged risk-taking, ensemble awareness, and creative exploration. Their expertise not only deepened our students’ understanding of the theatrical form but also gave them concrete tools to apply directly in rehearsal. The incorporation of physical theatre and chorus techniques elevated the work, giving it a striking visual and emotional resonance that would not have been possible without the input of D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective.’ — Teacher, Wavell State High School

Key learning outcomes
Drama - Introduction to Physical Theatre
Students will be able to:
- Use the body as a primary expressive instrument, applying physical theatre principles to communicate meaning, character, and emotion without reliance on text
- Understand and apply the three foundational principles of Meyerhold’s Biomechanics — otkaz (the preparation that gives an action its direction and force), pocil (the action itself, performed with clear intention and purpose), and stoika (the dynamic point of stillness that completes a phrase and prepares the next) — to construct precise, intentional physical scores
- Eliminate superfluous movement, developing conscious control over every part of the body so that each gesture earns its place and communicates clearly to an audience
- Build stage presence and physical confidence through structured, progressive practice that moves from individual awareness into ensemble work
General Capabilities: Personal and Social Capability · Critical and Creative Thinking · Health Literacy (body awareness, self-regulation)
