POLITICAL. PHYSICAL. PERSONAL. TEACH YOUR STUDENTS TO DEVISE WITH DIFFERENCE.

This workshop guides students through D.I.V.E.’s professional devising methodology: a structured process for transforming a theme or social issue into a complete, original theatre piece. No scripts. No prescribed answers. Students draw on their own perspectives, experiences, and creativity to build striking short pieces from the ground up.

They’ll develop independence as performer-creators, sharpen ensemble skills, and build the creative confidence to take artistic risks—capabilities that extend well beyond the drama classroom.

Students will leave with: a completed devised piece and a repeatable creative process they can apply independently in future work.

‘The type of work you do with students is challenging and highly important. The physical proxemics, intimacy and visceral, intuitive nature of the work seems like an antidote to modern society. Get this group in. Their work is challenging, fresh, demanding, risk-taking, liberating, collaborative, intense, emotional and amazing.’
— Teacher, Shanghai American School

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR TEACHERS

Teachers are warmly invited to participate in or observe any D.I.V.E. workshop. Each session concludes with a debrief covering the methodology used, key observations, and how the work can be extended in the classroom. Additional resources are available upon request.

IN-SCHOOL: For schools seeking deeper engagement, we offer dedicated in-school professional development workshops in Theatre of the Oppressed, Physical Theatre, and devising practice—led by professional practitioners and fellow teachers. Sessions can be delivered to your school or a cluster of schools, as a standalone event or as part of a longer program. You will leave with a solid understanding of our methodologies, new classroom-ready exercises, and supporting resources.

PUBLIC WORKSHOPS: D.I.V.E. also offers public professional development workshops throughout the year, open to teachers, emerging artists, and practitioners across Queensland and interstate. Public dates are announced via our newsletters and social media — subscribe to our newsletter The D.I.V.E.
